Singapore-based fintech Nium has recruited Anupam Pahuja as  executive vice-president, while Carousell has appointed JJ Ang as chief financial officer.

Nium names Anupam Pahuja as EVP

Singapore-based fintech Nium has recruited Anupam Pahuja as executive vice-president and general manager of Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa, reported Tech in Asia.

Pahuja worked for around 12 years with PayPal. He was the vice-president of the company’s India, Southeast Asia, Middle-East, and Africa units for around two years. Pahuja later joined Vietnamese fintech ZaloPay as CEO for a year.

In his new role, he will be working in the company’s Singapore headquarters, reporting to Nium’s CEO Prajit Nanu, according to Tech in Asia.

Founded in 2014 by Prajit Nanu and Mike Bermingham, Nium offers B2B payment services pay-outs, pay-ins, card issuance, and banking-as-a-service.

The firm became Southeast Asia’s first B2B payments unicorn after raising $200 million-plus in a Series D round in July 2021 led by US-based Riverwood Capital, with participation from Temasek, GIC, Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India, Visa,  Rocket Internet, Atinum, and Beacon VC.

Carousell appoints JJ Ang as CFO

Carousell, a Singapore-based multi-category platform for secondhand goods, appointed JJ Ang as chief financial officer, according to a LinkedIn post shared by the latter.

Ang was CFO of Indonesia-based B2B ecosystem business services provider GudangAda for two years. He was previously the CFO of Vietnam-based C2C e-commerce marketplace Sendo.vn.

“Making second hand the first choice — excited to contribute to this grand vision through driving impactful financial strategies that will position our company for long-term growth and success. Do what it takes. Can‘t wait to hit the ground running,” wrote  Ang.

Launched in 2012, Carousell has a leading presence in seven markets under the brands Carousell, Cho Tot, Laku6, Mudah.my, OneShift, Ox Luxe, Ox Street, and Refash.

Carousell is backed by leading investors including Telenor Group, Rakuten Ventures, Naver, STIC Investments, and Sequoia Capital India. The company has offices across Southeast Asia, India, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
