Can TikTok Shop take on Indonesia’s e-commerce giants?

Two years since its launch in Indonesia, the popularity of TikTok’s e-commerce business, TikTok Shop, has been rapidly rising on the back of the short video app’s meteoric growth in the country. This speedy ascent now raises the question of whether TikTok Shop can compete with Tokopedia, Bukalapak, Shopee and others in Indonesia’s crowded e-commerce market.

Choryna Dezavega, who owns the online store @teethertown, which sells baby teether products, joined TikTok Shop in August 2022. It only accounts for about 5% of total online sales, but Dezavega sees promising potential in selling through this platform.
