Ineos picks Magna to manufacture new small electric 4×4

Following the confirmation in May 2022 of a zero-emission model line, Ineos Automotive has announced it is developing its brand-new electric 4×4 SUV in conjunction with leading automotive supplier, Magna.

Ineos, which has worked with Magna previously on series engineering and development for the Grenadier station wagon and pick-up models, has signed an agreement to start production of the new 4×4 at Magna’s Graz, Austria facility in 2026.

Smaller than the Grenadier, this all-new battery electric model “will deliver world-class off-road capability, without compromising on-road comfort or performance.” The development process for this new 4×4 will include a rigorous testing programme on Austria’s Schockl mountain, which is close to Magna’s complete vehicle assembly facility.

“Having worked together on the engineering of the Grenadier, we’ve seen first-hand the value of applying Magna’s agility, knowledge, and experience to a complete vehicle development programme. Deepening our collaboration is a natural next step as we use the Grenadier as a springboard for our continued growth as a global automotive brand with this third model line,” added Lynn Calder, CEO, Ineos Automotive.

Magna, which already produces the Jaguar I-Pace, Jaguar E-Pace, BMW Z4 and more recently the Fisker Ocean SUV, has provided complete vehicle services to global automakers for decades. It has produced more than four million vehicles including different models for both traditional automakers and new entrants from its facilities in Graz, Austria, and Zhenjiang, China (a joint venture with BJEV).
