Eight a.m. in New York, 2 p.m. in Berlin, 8 p.m. in Shanghai: On Monday, Volkswagen presented its first all-electric ID.7 sedan in three simultaneous time zones. The setting alone makes it clear: with their latest model, the Wolfsburg-based company wants to score internationally.
The car will be launched in Europe and China in the fall. In America, VW is aiming for a start in 2024. Around the same time, a station wagon variant is due to appear in Europe. VW spoke of a “world car” in the run-up to the presentation in Shanghai, where the world’s largest motor show begins on Tuesday. With this claim, the ID.7 should play in a league with bestsellers such as the Beetle, Golf or Tiguan.
