Indore: Amid rising prices of petrol and diesel, the sale of electric passenger vehicles has scaled new highs in Indore with the EV segment contributing around 5 per cent in total passenger car sales.
Share of electric two-wheelers has jumped 10 per cent in total sale of bikes in the city. The sale of EV cars and two-wheelers has gained pace in tier two cities like Indore eyeing double digit growth on a year-on-year basis.
An automobile showroom owner Aditya Kasliwal said, “EV market is growing rapidly in India and the same pace of growth is witnessed in tier two cities. The ease of charging the vehicle at home and economical run against fuel vehicles is driving its market.”
According to market players, the average monthly sales of two-wheelers in Indore is around 8000 units.
“The average monthly expense on fuel by a person using a two-wheeler is Rs 3500-4000 which gets substantially down in the EV segment, which can be easily charged at home,” said Kasliwal.
Experts said, the subsidy on purchasing EV and its efficiency against fuel run vehicles has scaled its demand.
A leading EV player dealer Vishal Pamnani said, “The sales of EV cars were around 5-10 units per month until the past two years. It has now jumped to more than 50 in a month. Awareness and acceptance of EV has grown and this is likely to increase further in coming years as this is now the future.”
In India, the sales of EV in the fiscal year 2023 were more than 10 lakh units, according to Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations of India.
