The Tavascan is the second all-electric model from Seat’s sports brand Cupra. While the first Born is based on the VW ID.3, the Tavascan is to become a sportier brother model of the ID.5. As for all electric vehicles in the Volkswagen Group, the modular electric drive system (MEB) is also the basis here.
Cupra’s first all-electric SUV coupe shows many details of the concept study presented at the IAA 2019 in Frankfurt. The striking rear is eye-catching, and the illuminated Cupra logo and the matrix LED headlights in a triangular design also catch the eye. The rims and numerous elements in the interior have copper-colored accents, the Cupra brand color scheme.
There are two output levels to choose from when the market launches next year: Like the new ID.7, the basic version offers an electric motor on the rear axle with an output of 210 kW/286 hp. The more powerful VZ variant is all-wheel drive and delivers 250 kW/340 hp with one electric motor each on the front axle (80 kW/108 hp) and on the rear axle (210 kW/285 hp). Torque is transmitted through a single-speed gearbox with a differential that regulates the power output.

Fast charging: From ten to 80 percent in 30 minutes
The lithium-ion battery has a net capacity of 77 kWh, which should be enough for a range of around 550 kilometers for the rear-wheel drive version and around 520 kilometers for the VZ with all-wheel drive. Torque is shifted between all four wheels, improving handling, safety and acceleration. The Tavascan VZ accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.
The Tavascan supports fast charging, covering a range of 100 kilometers in seven minutes. If the remaining range is ten percent, the batteries can be recharged to 80 percent in half an hour at a 135 kW fast charging station.
Inside there is plenty of space, comfort and storage space for five occupants – in the first and second row of seats. The sports bucket seats are elaborately designed and are said to offer strikingly uncompromising lateral support. The trunk behind the rear seat bench offers 540 liters of storage space.
15 inch touch display
The display dominates the interior. It also controls the Sennheiser sound system.

The Tavascan is 4.64 meters long, 1.86 meters wide and 1.60 meters high, with a wheelbase of 2.77 meters. The music system comes for the first time at Cupra from Sennheiser. The system has twelve loudspeakers that are intended to provide 3D surround sound. The heart of the interior is the rounded center console with two cup holders. The large 15-inch touch display is dominant in the middle. This is where the digital systems of the Tavascan converge and can be extensively customized.
The design and development come from the headquarters in Barcelona, the Tavascan is manufactured in the Chinese Volkswagen plant in Anhui.
