Bemoaned confusion about assistance systems

Some assistance systems are confusing for most drivers. These include cruise control and parking aids, according to a survey in the USA.

Cruise control and parking assistance are the most confusing in-car tech features for most drivers, a survey shows. Almost three-quarters of drivers feel tech-savvy, but three in ten are unable to use all of their car’s modern gadgets.

Four out of ten drivers have the feeling that they are not full Use the potential of their cars, as technologies like cruise control, parking assistance and brake assist confuse them. More than half of drivers (55%) admit they didn’t even know their car had certain features like Lane Assist (18%) or Blind Spot Warning (19%) until they had owned it for six months.

In the future, drivers want more technologies to improve comfort (48%), safety (40%), entertainment (33%), navigation (31%) and self-driving technology (23%) in their cars. 86% of vehicle owners regard their car as their most expensive technical acquisition. Respondents under the age of 40 are more likely to want more comfort in their car than older people, while 52% of those under 30 want more entertainment in the car.

The survey also revealed that it takes an average of three months and two weeks for users to contact the get used to their car’s technology – and 13% didn’t know their car had features like lane assist and cruise control. However, eight out of ten respondents say they would like to be able to use advanced technology in their car – because it makes life easier for 55% and makes them feel safer for 39%. 34% of respondents are so used to modern cars that they could never drive an older model again.
