Lohum Cleantech and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur have joined forces in a strategic partnership aimed at collaborating on R&D initiatives focused on sustainability and other core areas. The partnership will be led by Professor Kanwar Singh Nalwa from the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering at IIT Kanpur. The joint team will work on projects aimed at advancing Lithium-ion battery testing technology and techniques for battery raw material quality evaluation.
Under this partnership, the joint projects will focus on developing technologies crucial for ensuring the safety and longevity of batteries. In addition, Lohum will lend its support to IIT Kanpur in commercialising its research outcomes in other areas.
Apart from the R&D collaboration, Lohum will also offer fellowships to certain Ph.D. students from IIT Kanpur to support their research efforts. Furthermore, Lohum will provide assistance to the IIT Kanpur Motorsports team, which recently emerged as the winner in the Class I electric category of the 2023 Formula Bharat.
Rajat Verma, CEO of Lohum Cleantech speaking on the partnership said, “The collaboration will help us develop innovative and sustainable solutions for the battery industry, which is critical to the growth of EVs in the country,” says.
Professor Kanwar Singh Nalwa further added, “The collaboration between Lohum Cleantech and IIT Kanpur is a significant step towards promoting sustainable energy and circular economy in India. It also strengthens the eco-system of industry-academia partnerships that the Government of India has been trying to foster.”
The partnership between Lohum and IIT Kanpur aims to achieve mutual objectives, such as reducing the carbon footprint of EV batteries and hastening the ongoing energy transition in India. As both entities continue to collaborate, the scope of their engagement is expected to expand further. In the near future, Lohum and IIT Kanpur will explore possibilities for partnering on other significant projects, including government initiatives.
