Chandigarh: After giving time of eight days, finally the e-auction of leftover registration numbers of multiple vehicle series started on Sunday.
The three-day e-auction will end on Tuesday and the list of successful bidders will be released by Tuesday evening.
The Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) of Chandigarh administration has identified over 300 fancy numbers of around 30 vehicles registration series for reauction.
Besides reauction of registration numbers of many previous vehicle series, 42 registration numbers are from the new vehicles series, CH-01-CP, which was launched in March. Though majority of the choice numbers of the new series were auctioned in March, 42 found no takers. Due to this, the authority kept these numbers in the reauction, adding them to previous vehicle series numbers.
The registration started on Saturday, April 29 and continued till May 6. Now, the three-day e-auction from May 7 to May 9 has started. Many double-digit registration numbers are also included in the leftover numbers and the authority expects to earn a good amount with their auction.
Sources said that the base price of the leftover vehicle registration numbers is between Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 per number. Since some registration numbers are double digit, their base prices are higher.
“Although there are many registration numbers of two and three digits, people have also started asking about the auction of the leftover series. We hope that these numbers will give a good amount to the authority in the auction,” sources said.
Since the e-auction of fancy registration vehicle numbers is one of the key mediums of revenue generation for the Chandigarh administration, the Registering and Licensing Authority focuses on it by advertising the auction to ensure maximum public participation.
