Mumbai: Chief minister Ekanth Shinde and deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis held a meeting regarding projects in the state with Union road and transport minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday.
Shinde directed officials to complete projects in time by removing bottlenecks in national highways, flyovers and road work in the state. Gadkari said the state must start a vehicle scraping unit in every district and set up 150-200 such units.
Gadkari said the central government announced a policy to scrap vehicles older than 15 years and appealed to the state government to start scrapping units in every district in Maharashtra. Officials said Gadkari suggested starting 150-200 units, four in large and developed districts and two in small undeveloped districts. Gadkari also said at least 10,000-15,000 people will get employment due to this, adding, speeding up work of the Mumbai-Goa National Highway, the one-way road should be concretised before the Ganpati festival this September.
“These projects should be completed in a timely manner by removing bottlenecks in work on national highways, flyovers, and roads which are ongoing and approved in the state. The forest department should take priority action for repairs of roads within the boundaries of forests,” Shinde said.
Officials said 435km projects of nine projects of four-, six- and eight-lane roads are proposed in Mumbai division through NHAI.
