The Munich commercial vehicle manufacturer MAN is supplying 120 electric trucks for the group logistics of its parent company Volkswagen. The forwarder Duvenbeck, who drives for Volkswagen, has signed a corresponding declaration of intent, the Traton subsidiary MAN told the Reuters news agency on Thursday.
The vehicles are to be used from 2024. It is the first electric truck that will drive for VW. The vehicles are semitrailer tractors that allow a loading height of three meters in the trailer – such machines are often used in automotive logistics in particular.
For MAN, this is the second major customer: the logistics company DB Schenker wants to put 100 of the new electric trucks into operation between 2024 and 2026. In 2024, MAN will start producing the first heavy-duty vehicles in a small series at its Munich plant.
When it comes to decarbonizing heavy-duty traffic, Traton is focusing in particular on electric trucks, which can be charged particularly quickly, and less on hydrogen. The vehicles for Duvenbeck could initially be charged with a maximum of 375 kilowatts; a charging capacity of one megawatt is aimed for in the future. However, charging stations are still missing.
