Pune: Candidates in skill development courses dropping out after training begins, delay in receipt of results after completion of the assessment and in the publication of the results on Mahaswayam web portal, reluctance to migrate and delay in getting training reimbursement are some problems identified by field officers of Pune Zilla Parishad and the training centres while implementing programmes mandated by the government, a report on Pune district’s skill development action plan for 2023-24 said.
ZP officials said that they will introduce counselling of students, impanel government-run ITIs and other institutes for quality training, and encourage more institutes to provide training in remote areas so that students need not migrate.
Sagar Mohite, assistant commissioner of Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Department, said that the focus for next year’s courses is in agriculture, capital goods, electronics, automobiles, IT/ITes, and tourism.
“There will also be courses for the electric vehicle industry as we have realized in our skill gap analysis report that there is a growing need for skilled people in that area,” Mohite added.
Many times, a person from rural Pune will get a job in Delhi and refuse to go. “We are trying to change this through counselling. Secondly, we have also started the e-tendering process for Kaushalya Kendras which will be set up as one for every 30 gram panchayats. This will ensure that students from rural areas don’t spend money and travel to cities or taluka places for skill training,” Mohite said.
