After the setbacks in China in deliveries last month, Volkswagen has caught up strongly. In April, the Wolfsburg-based company handed over 255,700 vehicles to customers in its largest single market and increased sales there by almost 80 percent within a year, as the group announced on Friday.
Deliveries also increased significantly in other regions, by 28.7 percent in Western Europe and by 34 percent in South America. In North America, growth was not as high at 8.9 percent. Worldwide, Europe’s largest car company increased by 40 percent last month. Since the beginning of the year, 2.76 million cars, trucks and buses have been delivered to customers, up 14.3 percent.
In China, where Volkswagen is under increasing pressure from domestic manufacturers for e-cars, the group managed a slight increase in deliveries of 0.4 percent after four months across all drive types. Among the brands, both the volume group with VW, Skoda and Seat/Cupra and the premium group with Audi saw strong growth worldwide in April.
Porsche also sold more of its sports cars and SUVs last month. The truck subsidiary Traton with brands such as MAN, Scania and Navistar delivered 39.4 percent more in April than a year ago.
