New Delhi: Vehicle sales in all segments improved in April 2023 compared to April 2022 and this indicates that the automotive industry has transitioned very smoothly to BS VI Phase 2 emission norms from April 1, 2023, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said.
“All the segments viz. Passenger Vehicles, Two-Wheelers and Three-Wheelers have posted growth in April 2023, compared to April 2022, which clearly indicates that Industry has been able to transit very smoothly to BS VI Phase 2 emission norms from April 1, 2023. As we gradually get into the monsoon season, among other factors, good rainfall can also help the auto industry sustain its growth,” Vinod Aggarwal, President, SIAM said.
The monthly sales of passenger vehicles in April 2023 stood at 3,31,278 units compared to 2,93,303 units during the same month last year.
In the three-wheeler category, except the sales of goods carriers, sales of all the segments ended in green. The total three-wheeler sales for the month stood at 42,885 units. Passenger carriers grew at a whopping 175% on a Y-o-Y basis with 34,608 units sold compared to the 12,555 units during the same period last year. Sales of goods carriers dipped to 5367 units. E-rickshaw sales stood at 2,591 units and e carts at 319 units growing 212.16% and 20.83% on a Y-o-Y basis.
The sales of two-wheelers also grew significantly with total sales of 13,38,588 units during the month. Segment wise total units of scooters sold was at 4,64,389 compared to 3,88,442 in the corresponding period last year. Sales of mopeds stood at 34,925 units and motorcycles at 8,39,274 units. The sales of quadricycles were recorded at 61 units.
