Northwood University offers summer camp for high schoolers to learn automotive industry

High schoolers across Michigan are fueling up and getting ready to rev their engines for a new automotive summer camp taking place this spring at Northwood University.

Registration is now open for the Full Tank Automotive Camp, funded by General Motors. The camp takes place over six days from June 11-16 on the university’s Midland campus.

Elgie Bright, chair for the Automotive Marketing and Management program at Northwood, said the camp will allow students to explore their automotive curiosity.

“Full Tank Automotive Camp will help students explore careers throughout the automotive industry, including design, development, manufacturing, sales, marketing, service and aftermarket,” Bright said.

According to a news release from Northwood, attendees will participate in a range of activities including:

  • Discovering strengths and skills related to automotives
  • Meeting friends and collaborating in team settings
  • Communicating through advertising
  • Problem solving
  • Learning about the history, present, and future of the industry

The camp will also include field trips, business tours and a baseball game.

Northwood is nationally recognized for both their undergraduate and graduate automotive programs of study, making faculty and staff qualified mentors for the program, said Bright.

“With the guidance of current Northwood University students and faculty, campers will learn from industry professionals through hands-on exploration,” she said. “The lessons and skills that campers learn here can start a future business leader’s career!”
