Crypto derivatives exchange BitMEX is planning to apply for the virtual asset service provider (VASP) licence under Hong Kong’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing (Amendment) Ordinance 2022, which takes effect on June 1, 2023, it announced on Monday
“We’re in the middle of evaluating what resources we need, [and] how we can make that possible. We want to formalise our footprint in our roots in Hong Kong by applying for a licence. It’s not that we handed in something and we still need some work. But we welcome that opportunity to find a formal home with a licence in Hong Kong,” Stephan Lutz, CEO and Group CFO at BitMEX, told DealStreetAsia in an interview.
