The Mahindra Thar SUV has been one of the more popular models for the brand in recent times. Mahindra is gearing up to expand the Thar line-up with a 5-door version and fresh spy shots show the upcoming SUV equipped with a sunroof.
Mahindra Thar 5-door to be feature-laden
While the Thar 3-door has carved out a niche of its own among Indian lifestyle vehicle customers, Mahindra wants to aim the Thar 5-door at buyers who are looking for a rugged and practical lifestyle SUV but with a similar character as the 3-door model. The Thar 5-door will not have just an additional set of doors, but will also have a longer feature list, including a sunroof that has now been confirmed thanks to the new set of spy shots.
Unlike the Thar 3-door, Mahindra will most likely not have a soft-top variant on the Thar 5-door. Mahindra will equip the Thar 5-door with a front centre armrest, an updated touchscreen infotainment system, more storage spaces in the cabin, multiple seating options, including two individual seats for the second row, and better quality materials on the inside.
Mahindra Thar 5-door launch next year
Mahindra recently announced that it currently has its hands full in clearing the ever-increasing existing order backlog. More than two lakh units combined of SUVs like the Thar 3-door, the XUV700, the Scoprio N and the Scorpio Classic are yet to be delivered to customers as of this month. The company, therefore, has clarified that while there are multiple ongoing new product developments in the background, it will introduce fresh SUVs in the Indian market only next year as it currently is focusing on delivering existing orders.
“Our 5-door Thar is not coming in this calendar year, much as many folks are speculating it is. It’s a 2024 [calendar year] launch,” said Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director & CEO (Auto and Farm Sector), Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.
Besides the Thar 5-door, Mahindra is also readying a major update on the XUV300 compact SUV for a 2024 launch.
