PTI has reported that Tesla is not being considered for tailor made incentives by the Union Government, but states have the liberty to offer concessions to the automotive firm.
Tesla has evinced interest in setting up a supply chain in the future, in India. Tesla representatives met Indian officials in the earlier month. On being asked about offering incentives to firms, officials said that presently there were no plans to give specific incentives, but added that states could compete internally and potentially offer concessions.
In 2021, Tesla had asked for reduced import duties on EVs in India, with talks leading to an impasse, as India wanted Tesla to build locally first.
