Around 750 vehicles with bad tyre conditions have been denied permission on the Samruddhi Mahamarg since April 10, said state transport commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar on Friday.
He was present for the inauguration of the tyre inspector centre at the Shirdi Interchange of the expressway.
Emphasising that the bad condition of vehicles was one of the major reasons for accidents, Bhimanvar said around 15,000 vehicles were checked on the Samruddhi Mahamarg, in which 750 motorists were denied permission to ply on the expressway.
The tyre inspection centre of vehicles has been set up jointly by the state transport department and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation with technical support from the tyre manufacturing company CEAT. Nitrogen filling, air filling, tyre wear check, valve check, valve pin check and replacement, basic puncture repair, etc will be provided free of cost to vehicle owners at the inspection centre from 7 am to 11 pm.
Bhimanwar said, “Violation of speed limit, driving without resting for a long time and highway hypnosis were among the major reasons for accidents on the expressway. The bad condition of vehicles was also one of the major reasons.”
“Hence, the state transport department has set up counselling centres at different places all along the expressway for motorists who are violating the speed limits. More than 3,000 vehicle owners have already been counselled,” he added.
