Collective bargaining result: More money and justice for employees in textile services

Frankfurt am Main/Leipzig – Employees in collective laundries receive more money. IG Metall agreed on this with the employers in Leipzig on Tuesday after 24 hours of negotiations. This was preceded by the industry’s first warning strikes in over 30 years, in which around 4,000 employees took part. 22,000 people work in the textile services nationwide.

The result of the fourth collective bargaining provides for a net inflation adjustment premium of 1300 euros, which will be paid in two installments (in July 2023 and in January 2024). As of March 2024 and 2025, employees will receive fixed amounts in the tariff tables of EUR 150 each. IG Metall negotiator Miriam Bürger: “Especially employees in the lower pay groups feel the inflation in their wallets. This collective bargaining agreement relieves you in particular.” According to IG Metall, the collective bargaining agreement for low earners in companies means a pay increase of almost 15 percent in the west and almost 19 percent in the east.

IG Metall sees the agreed, gradual adjustment of wages and salaries in the east to the west level as historic. From May 2025, employees will receive the same wages and special payments everywhere. Citizens: “Same work, same costs, same money: It’s good that employers have finally understood this more than three decades after unity.”

The new collective agreement has a term of two years. In addition, IG Metall and the employer agreed on the continuation of the semi-retirement tariff income and a higher additional payment as well as the unlimited continuation of the collective agreement on short-time work.
