A robotic taxi accidentally killed a dog in California.
An autonomous robotic taxi from the company Waymo, is said to have captured the mongrel dog while in self-driving mode. The dog ran out of a building in a San Francisco industrial area as the car passed the street. The car hit the dog, who died from the injuries.
The car was in autonomous mode, but there was a human on board. However, it was not possible to stop in time.
The company sent its sincere condolences to the dog’s owner and said the investigation is still ongoing. According to initial findings, the dog ran out from behind a parked car, so the systems did not correctly recognize the dog.
It’s another incident that damaged the varnish on autonomous driving’s reputation. Lately there have been some cars that are in one Street collected or through barriers to lead.
The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration counted 419 accident reports involving autonomous vehicles as of January 2023. There were 18 deaths, many being attributed to Tesla go. Waymo hasn’t had any such accidents, but Uber has. The Uber accident was the first in which a human killed became.
