People Digest: GIC, Heritas Capital, and Clifford Capital make key appointments

GIC has appointed Hwee Loo Tan as its head of private equity in Asia, Heritas Capital has recruited Anselm Tan as its managing director and head of venture capital, and Temasek-backed Clifford Capital has appointed P Murlidhar Maiya as its new group chief executive officer.

GIC appoints veteran Hwee Loo Tan

Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC has appointed Hwee Loo Tan as its head of private equity in Asia, according to a LinkedIn update.

AVCJ was the first to report the appointment on Wednesday.

Tan has been the co-Head of Global Investments, Strategy and Risk (GISR) in the Private Equity (PE) Department of GIC for three years. She joined GIC as an economist and has worked with the company for 22 years.

She joined private equity department in 2005 and since then worked in GISR, Europe Funds and Co-Investments, as well as Asia Funds and Co-Investments.

In 2016, she led and developed the newly formed global secondaries team as a separate strategy within the PE division.

Heritas Capital recruits Anselm Tan

Singapore-based private equity and venture capital firm Heritas Capital has recruited Anselm Tan as managing director and head of venture capital.

Tan was a partner at Philips Ventures for seven years. He is a member of the advisory board of the Singapore Deep-Tech Alliance, and evaluation panel of Centre for Medical Technologies and Innovations.

The company also appointed new investment team members, Marcus Tan and Pornteera Pawijit. Tan has worked with A*STAR, Advanced MedTech, and Cargene Therapeutics while Pawijit joined Heritas from L.E.K. Consulting, where she was a senior life science specialist advising healthcare businesses.

Clifford Capital appoints new group CEO

Temasek-backed provider of debt financing solutions Clifford Capital has appointed P Murlidhar Maiya as the new group CEO.

Maiya is joining the company from JP Morgan, where he was head of equity capital markets for the Asia Pacific region. He has spent more than 25 years in various roles in Singapore, Hong Kong, and India.

He has worked in all the key markets across the Asia Pacific region, leading JP Morgan’s Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets, Investment Banking and Financial Institutions coverage businesses.

He will succeed Clive Kerner at the end of the third quarter while Kerner will remain with the firm in a senior advisory capacity until his retirement at the end of the year.
