Stellantis N.V. and the Hon Hai Technology Group, also known as Foxconn, have formed SiliconAuto – a 50/50 joint venture dedicated to designing and selling a family of semiconductors for the automotive industry, including Stellantis.
Commencing operations in 2026, SiliconAuto unites Foxconn’s development capabilities and domain experiences in the IT industry with Stellantis’ global understanding of diverse mobility needs. The new company will provide customers with an industry-centric source of semiconductors intended to complement the growing number of computer-controlled features and modules being integrated into new vehicles, with a particular focus on EVs.
Products from SiliconAuto will support the future semiconductor needs of Stellantis and Foxconn, as well as other customers. For Stellantis, the joint venture will support STLA Brain – its new electrical/electronic and software architecture with full OTA updating capabilities.
SiliconAuto itself will be headquartered in the Netherlands, with a management team made up of executives from both of its founding partners. Stellantis will provide input to the new company to enable and deliver capabilities needed by future BEVs and multi-energy vehicle platforms.
The joint venture is ultimately the product of a December 2021 agreement between Stellantis and Foxconn to develop a family of semiconductors for automotive applications. The corporations previously launched the Mobile Drive joint venture – which is focused on developing smart cockpits enabled by consumer electronics, human-machine interfaces and services.
