Panaji: Given the inevitability of electrification in the transport sector, the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) has called for the need for a ‘siting study’ – a research of locations identified to set up EV charging stations.
A recent technical session on this subject organised by GEDA saw the participation of senior officials of Kadamba, various municipal corporations, panchayats, town planning department, oil companies, charge point operators, PWD, and technical experts.
“EVCI (electric vehicle charging infrastructure) is an important ingredient in the adoption of EVs in all segments. The technical inputs gathered during the session are useful for us to inform the next steps,” said Kadamba GM Sanjay Ghate.
During the training session, Mahesh Patankar, managing director, MP Ensystems, offered several examples of EVCI siting studies from India and around the world. He emphasised the need for multiple stakeholders to be involved in the study and for local policies to be modified to promote EVCI.
The session included training on an online GIS-based siting tool that uses traffic demand data, expected saturation of EVs, availability of electricity grid, and revenue models. The tool – available in the public domain at evci.mpensystems.com – was used to display results of prospective EVCI points in key cities in the country as well as along 32 freight corridors. One of the key insights from the tool demonstration was how it could be used by municipalities and town planners for EVCI siting and implementation.
With the objective of boosting adoption of electric vehicles to at least 30% by 2025, the state government has approved the Goa Electric Mobility Promotion Policy (GEMPP) 2021. The policy aims to create 10,000 direct and indirect jobs in the sector by 2025.
