NelsonMedallia Superbike Race 1, Saturday – The first lap of the 16-lap Race 1 saw BMW M 1000 RR rider, Beaubier, fighting from P4 with Tytlers Cycle Racing teammates Alexander in P7 and Jacobsen in P8. On Lap 2, Beaubier had moved himself into P3. Alexander moved up to P6 when the Ducati rider in front of him experienced an apparent gear shift issue. On Lap 5, the 2nd place rider slid out, elevating everyone up one position. Beaubier to P2, Alexander to P6 and Jacobsen to P7. On Lap 7, the No 2 Ducati was able to slip past Alexander, pushing him back to P6. Beaubier continued to chase down the leading Yamaha rider and close the gap but on Lap 13, Beaubier’s front tire slid out sending the BMW into the hay bales and pushing them onto the track. Beaubier ran to his downed motorcycle and got himself back on track, but the red flag had been waived, bringing the entire field into the pits. Because 75% of the race had been completed, the race was called. Beaubier was given a 20-second time adjustment, or the time that it took him to get back on his M 1000 RR and get back on track, pushing him back to P7 but still allowing him to finish in the top 10. Beaubier found himself in a familiar P3 after the start, chasing down the Ducati and the Yamaha riders. He would not have to wait long, when on Lap 2, he put together a multi-corner pass on the P2 Ducati. Tytlers Cycle Racing teammates, Corey Alexander and PJ Jacobsen were running in P7 and P8 respectively. Beaubier was putting down very fast sector times, including a new race lap record on his BMW M 1000 RR and could plan his attack on the leading Yamaha. The pair of leading riders were on a blistering pace and put on a great show for the fans. On Lap 10, Beaubier showed the power of the BMW and made his move to take over P1. He was able to extend his lead on the straight sections and crossed the finish line first to celebrate his 57th Superbike win and the first win for a non-Yamaha at The Ridge in eight races.
