In preparation for the monsoon, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has set up a control room, which will be monitorable round the clock.
As per a press statement, the Control Room was set up to keep an eye on the problems caused by heavy rains on the country’s National Highways, such as traffic jams, accidents caused by poor vision and potholes, water logging, road blockage, and landslides, among other things.
Teams have been formed to do several tasks such as taking calls from the public and government agencies and watching electronic media platforms for incidents linked to the operation of National Highways that happen during the monsoon. The teams have been told to work together with the Regional Officers of MoRTH, NHAI, and NHIDCL to get problems with blocked or damaged National Highways fixed more quickly, the Ministry added.
