NEW DELHI: Torrent Power on Monday announced its entry into the green hydrogen (GH2) arena with a pilot project for blending natural gas sold as CNG and PNG through its city gas networks with the ‘fuel of the future’.
The company said it is looking at injecting 2.5% GH2 into its city gas networks from the Gorakhpur based pilot for Torrent Gas. The project, based on alkaline electrolyser, is expected to be completed in eight months.
The company said it is also looking at developing export-oriented green ammonia projects as a growth avenue for the company with active interests in multiple states.
The Gorakhpur pilot project will be one of the largest private sector GH2 blending projects in India, the company said. Blending GH2 with the existing natural gas supply allows for a gradual transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy mix, it said.
GH2 is produced using power from renewable sources to electrolyse water.
Through this initiative, Torrent has taken the first step towards incorporating GH2 in its business operations and, coupled with its strong presence in renewables, is looking to grow as a leading end to end GH2 solution provider to industrial & commercial players in India.
