Tesla accident in Pennsylvania

A car operating on autopilot crashes into a stationary truck in Pennsylvania.

A Tesla vehicle, in which the autopilot was active, collided on an expressway in Pennsylvania with a stationary truck. This accident reinforces the investigations regarding his driver assistance system.

The Tesla was traveling in the center lane when it struck the rear of a parked semi-trailer truck that was in the same lane, directing traffic for a right lane closure, authorities said. The US regulator NHTSA investigates a series of accidents in which Tesla vehicles on autopilot collided with parked emergency vehicles.

Police said the car lost control because it was on autopilot mode. An investigation was launched against the 18-year-old driver for “negligence while driving”. However, there was no personal injury in the incident, which occurred in late June. In February, a Tesla Model S crashed into a stationary fire truck California, the driver of the vehicle was killed. This sparked an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Tesla states that Autopilot can automatically navigate, accelerate and brake the car in its lane. However, these functions require active monitoring by the driver and do not make the vehicle autonomous. Although Tesla advertised for the longest time that the car could drive itself. So also the name of the system autopilot or Full Self Driving (FSD).
