Transport minister Champai Soren examined the progress of the Mukhyamantri Gram Gaadi Yojana, 2022 in a review meeting held at the Circuit House here on Monday. The objective of the scheme, initiated by the state government, is to bridge the gap between villages and cities concerning the traffic system and ensure easy accessibility to bus services for the rural population.
During the meeting, district transport officer Sanjeev Kumar informed the minister that a total of nine meetings have taken place at the block level and identified 37 rural roads which were forwarded to the district administration for implementation of the scheme. Among these roads, eight are proposed in the first phase and they have been approved in the district-level committee meeting. These eight roads were sent for seeking permission from the deputy transport commissioner of the North Chotanagpur division.
Soren also gathered detailed information from all block development officers on the identified rural routes. He inquired about the proposal for the 22/42 seater buses, the number of panchayats to be covered by the bus service, the rural population and key destinations like schools, colleges, markets and haats among others.
He said, “The government’s effort is to connect remote areas to main roads and cities, ensuring that bus services are available within a half or one-kilometre radius from people’s homes and enabling easy transportation for students.”
Deputy commissioner Kuldeep Chowdhary said the district administration is committed to initiating bus services without delay on at least one rural route in every block. “The district authorities are actively working on implementing the scheme and starting bus services in the identified areas,” Chowdhary said.
Later the minister directed the officials for the swift operation of the bus services, given that it is an ambitious initiative of the government for the welfare of the rural people. He expressed gratitude to the mukhiyas and panchayat representatives present at the meeting for their valuable suggestions and cooperation in route planning.
