Renault Nissan Automotive India (RNAIPL) has announced that it will be investing over Rs 1.4 crore under its ‘Karpom Munneruvom’ (Learning for Progress) initiative to upgrade infrastructure at eight schools in and around Oragadam as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments for FY23-24.
Between July and December 2023, RNAIPL will build classrooms and restrooms, and set up RO plants for drinking water, CCTV cameras, and inverters for uninterrupted power supply. As per the company statement, RNAIPL’s initiative supports the Tamil Nadu Education Department’s ‘Namma School’ initiative, which is working to enhance state public school infrastructure. RNAIPL’s infrastructure upgrade projects will cover a total of eight schools in Orathur, Nattarasampattu, Gunduperumpedu, Vadakkupattu, Umayalparenenchery and Walajabad.
Toru Ihara, Nissan’s Global Chief HR Officer, who was on a special visit to Chennai, today led the ceremony for the construction of the first two classrooms at the Government Higher Secondary School at Vadakkupattu village. He was joined by Anish Baijal, Corporate Vice President, Nissan Global HR Strategy, Transformation and Regional Operations, Frank Torres, President, Nissan India Operations and Keerthi Prakash, Managing Director, Renault Nissan Automotive India.
Keerthi Prakash, Managing Director, RNAIPL, speaking on the company’s initiative said, “Child education is a critical pillar of RNAIPL’s commitment to the inclusive and sustainable development of communities in Tamil Nadu. Through our school programme, we aim to nurture better learning outcomes and pave the path to local skill development.”
Since 2021, RNAIPL has invested in infrastructure development projects in nine schools across Kanchipuram and Chennai districts, benefitting over 6,200 children.
RNAIPL has also invested in community development projects in the environment and health sectors.
