An audit conducted on behalf of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has revealed major safety deficiencies on the Mannuthy-Angamaly-Edappally NH stretch.
The audit conducted by Sphere Infratech Consultancy Private Ltd on behalf of the NHAI has identified several danger zones, including 10 black spots, and 30 severe accident-prone sites, according to the RTI replies received by the leader of opposition in the district panchayat, Joseph Tajet.
The danger points in Thrissur are Koratty, Chirangara, Potta, Perambra, Kurumali, Pudukad police station area, KSRTC bus stop and bus stand, and Kunjanampara station, Tajet said. The audit conducted from November 8 to 11, 2022 covered multiple issues related to aspects like sight distances, intersections, interchanges, cross sections, lighting arrangements, access to property, drainage, pavement markings and roadside hazards. The report also suggested the remedial measures to be taken.
Tajet added that he had brought to the attention of the public about the numerous violations of agreements by the company and the huge amount of toll it has been collecting. NHAI had earlier disclosed that a fine of INR 1,790 crore was slapped on the company for agreement violations. He demanded legal action against the company.TNN
