Ten traffic junctions across Mysuru city will soon be equipped with Intelligent Traffic Management System, which will provide complete information about the vehicles at a junction, including violations pending against each vehicle and also pop-up info if it is a stolen vehicle.
Moreover, it will help cops to automatically record traffic violations, generate challans and dispatch the notice to vehicle owners. The technology will reduce manpower and aims to spread awareness among vehicle users.
In this connection, traffic and road safety ADGP Alok Kumar on Wednesday held a review meeting with city police officials and technical expert team at the office of police commissioner in Mysuru.
If things go according to plans, new cameras will be installed at the traffic junctions where four, five, or six roads converge. The cameras will be connected to the centralised control system. In the case of three persons riding on a motorcycle or scooter, the system would record the violation and generate a challan. Other violations like helmetless riding and using mobile phones while driving too can be recorded. The cameras can also be used for monitoring vehicular movement and crowd management during some situations.
Currently, police personnel deputed at traffic control rooms record violations manually and generate challans. The integrated system has been experimented and implemented in Bengaluru and Mysuru will be the second city in the state to adopt the technology, an officer informed.
Commissioner of police Ramesh Banoth told TOI that the intelligent traffic management system will surely help in day-to-day policing as it provides complete information about a vehicle at one’s fingertips.
If the vehicle is a stolen one or has any pending challan against it, all such information can be obtained in a click, the top cop informed.
City police said initially, ten traffic junctions would be equipped with the system and later would be extended to other intersections in a phase manner. The ten junctions where the cameras will be installed include Hardinge, KR Circle, Visvesvaraya Circle, Siddappa Square, Ramaswamy Circle, Field Marshal Cariappa Circle, Old RMC Junction, Udayagiri Junction, Hinkal Junction and Kempegowda Junction.
