Installing public EV chargers in lampposts is an elegant solution to the problem of urban drivers who can’t install home charging—it minimizes sidewalk clutter and leverages existing electrical service.
Voltpost, founded in 2021, is one of several companies targeting this market. The company recently successfully closed a seed funding round led by RWE Energy Transition Investments. Twynam Funds Management, Exelon Foundation, Good News Ventures, Climate Capital and others also participated.
The company will use the new funding to commercialize the Voltpost platform and rapidly deploy its modular and upgradable lamppost chargers.
Voltpost is working with cities across the US to explore deployments of its EV chargers. In 2022 and 2023, Voltpost participated in a New York City lamppost charging pilot. Now the company is conducting a second pilot at the Detroit Smart Parking Lab in Michigan.
“Voltpost provides a scalable, reliable, and equitable solution to address the climate crisis,” said founder and CEO Jeff Prosserman. “This investment fuels our vision to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution by making charging access as common as lampposts.”
