New Delhi: Vitesco Technologies, a global supplier of advanced drive technologies and electrification solutions, is supplying its cutting-edge integrated axle drive EMR3 (3rd generation, Electronics Motor Reducer) to power Honda‘s latest B-segment all-electric SUV, known as the e:Ny1 in Europe, based on Honda’s innovative e:N Architecture F.
The E-drive is a remarkable 3-in-1 unit that seamlessly combines power electronics, electric motor, and reducer functionalities. This third-generation integrated axle drive has proven to be a success for Vitesco Technologies, the company said.
Thomas Stierle, the division head of Vitesco Technologies’ Electrification Solutions and a member of the Executive Board, saw this collaboration as a validation of Vitesco Technologies’ global strategy, with established manufacturing and R&D facilities in key markets worldwide.
“It is an honour for us to deliver our successful electric axle drive to Honda for its new e:Ny1 model. We also see this business as a confirmation of our global strategy with well-established manufacturing and R&D sites in core world markets,” he said.
Very compact and lightweight, weighing in at only 76 kg, the axle drives for Honda’s e:Ny1 deliver an impressive peak output of 150 kW and 310 Nm of torque. This power enables the e:Ny1 to achieve a limited top speed of 160 km/h. Honda refers to this drive unit as a “3-in-1 drive unit.”
The European model, e:Ny1, is set to hit the market in October 2023. It is built on Honda’s front-axle drive platform, e:N Architecture F, and boasts a 4-door B-segment design with a remarkable maximum range of 412 km under WLTP test conditions.
The axle drive’s outstanding performance attributes have catapulted it to great heights of success for Vitesco Technologies. With over three quarters of a million units manufactured since 2019 and being chosen by eight vehicle brands as of June 2023, the demand for the EMR3 remains strong, solidifying its reputation as a preferred choice for electric vehicle manufacturers.
