Woodcliff Lake, NJ – July 31, 2023…Round 6 of 9 of MotoAmerica’s Superbike Race Weekends brought the riders together at the 2.5-mile Brainerd International Raceway in central Minnesota. Cameron Beaubier, hoped to close the points gap to the season leading Yamaha rider but the two days would prove challenging for the Tytlers Cycle Racing BMW 1000 RR rider, opening the door for his teammate, PJ Jacobsen, to earn his very first Medallia Superbike win. In the Steel Commander Stock 1000 class, Ezra Beaubier, who leads in points, would experience his own tough weekend. Still, in four races, BMW M 1000 RR riders would capture one win and 5 total podium finishes. PJ Jacobsen / Tytlers Cycle Racing – Photo by Brian J NelsonMedallia Superbike Race 1 (Saturday) Cameron Beaubier would start from pole position on his No. 6 BMW M 1000 RR, with his Tytlers Cycle Racing teammate PJ Jacobsen starting on the front row in P2. The No. 1 Yamaha jumped to the lead at the start and Beaubier’s Saturday would come to an early and disappointing finish on the very first lap when he clipped the rear tire of the Yamaha, sending the BMW and another rider off track. Fluid on the track from that incident caused the race to be red flagged, sending all riders into the pits to await cleanup and safe track conditions for a restart. After about 15 minutes, a quick restart of the shortened 16 lap race, down from 18 laps, saw PJ Jacobsen in P2 and Cameron Beaubier in P3. On lap 3 however, Beaubier’s rear tire slid out causing him to be flung off the bike when he tried to save his machine. PJ Jacobsen gave chase to try and reel in the Yamaha, but he was not able to pass and finished in 2nd position, just 0.195 seconds behind the leader. Jacobsen started from pole but found himself in P3 on the first lap. He quickly worked himself into P2 and stayed on the tail of the race leading Yamaha. On lap 9, Jacobsen made his move, took over P1 and never looked back, earning his very first Medallia Superbike win. After the close 2nd place finish in Race 1, Tytlers Cycle Racing made some adjustments to PJ’s BMW M 1000 RR for Race 2, and they looked to have paid off. Top 10 BMW M 1000 RR finishers in Race 2 were:1st PJ Jacobsen, No 99 Tytlers Cycle Racing9th Ashton Yates, No. 22 Aftercare Scheibe Racing Steel Commander Stock 1000 Race 1 (Saturday) The return of the Stock 1000 riders to competition saw BMW M 1000 RR riders Kaleb De Keyrel start from P1, Travis Wyman start from P5 and Ezra Beaubier start from P6. The three riders also led the championship in points going into the weekend. At the start, De Keyrel was off, chasing the leading Suzuki, with Wyman following in 5th and Beaubier in 6th and Lamkin in 7th. On lap 5, Wyman took over 4th. With 3 laps to go, Lamkin jumped from 7th to 5th with Wyman grabbing the 3rd podium spot just one lap later. Beaubier passed fellow BMW rider Lamkin on the last lap. De Keyrel rode hard to try and win at his home track, but a double podium for BMW M 1000 RR riders was a well-deserved result. De Keyrel, in P3, led Beaubier, Wyman and Lamkin in a train of BMWs chasing down the leading two riders through lap 3. On lap 4, Beaubier received a 5 second penalty for jumping the start, effectively moving him back to 8th. De Keyrel, Wyman and Lampkin continued the chase from P3, P4 and P5, while Beaubier pushed as hard as possible to make up those lost 5 seconds. When the checkered flag waved, De Keyrel would seize 2nd place and Beaubier would bring up the rear of the top BMW finishers, after working himself back into 6th.
