In its bid to promote electric vehicles to help Indore become a ‘solar city’, Atal Indore Transport Services Limited (AICTSL) on Saturday inaugurated the state’s first alternate energy-enabled public EV charging station while 46 such facilities are on the card at different locations.
“There is a considerable surge in use of electric vehicles in public and private transportation and thus, such charging points are also required. With inauguration of the state’s first solar enabled public EV charging station next to AICTSL’s office (between Geeta Bhawan Square and Shivaji Vatika Square), we have planned to setup similar points at 46 locations across the city” Mayor and AICTSL’s board chairman Pushyamitra Bhargava said.
He added that from the chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s inspiration, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and AICTSL have resolved to make Indore a solar city to lead the country in use of renewable energy to ultimately help achieving the Prime Minister’s goal to achieve Net-Zero target by 2070.
According to senior AICTSL officials, electric two-wheelers, four-wheelers and EV auto-rickshaws can charge from the point that was inaugurated today with a cost of around INR 15 lakh. To charge an electric two-wheeler fully, it takes three hours and around four units at the rate of INR 15/unit. Maximum six vehicles can be parked and put on charging at the same time at this station while the users can also avail pre-booking and prepaid recharge facilities there.
“To promote green mobility, AICTSL has proposed a total of 47 charging stations at different locations across the city. Of these, 37 will be slow charging points while 10 will be fast charging points” the CEO Manoj Pathak said.
He added that presently, AICTSL is operating a total of 40 electric buses in its public transport service while 15 charging points have been set up for these vehicles near Silicon City Square, Hawa Bungalow Square and Rajiv Gandhi Square.
