With an eye on emerging as a leading player in the e-mobility space, Telangana is working to secure the supply of lithium salts and other minerals has nominated the Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation (TSMDC) to enter into direct collaborations with South American countries through local joint venture partners, Telangana IT & industries minister KT Rama Rao said on Friday.
Speaking while laying the foundation stone for Amara Raja’s advanced energy research & innovation centre – `E Positive Energy Labs’ – KTR said Telangana is perhaps the first state in the country to ensure access to lithium and other minerals is part of efforts to build a sustainable electric vehicle and energy storage systems ecosystem.
Pointing out that India’s domestic demand for ACC (advanced chemistry cell) batteries is projected to grow to 260 GWh by 2030, KTR said 60% of this demand is expected to be manufactured in India by then and of this, Telangana aims to host about 30GWh capacity Lithium-ion giga factories by 2030.
The innovation centre is coming up at GMR Aerocity as part of the group’s 9,500 crore investment in setting up a gigafactory at Divitipalli for manufacturing Li-ion cells and battery packs.
