With 1,001,662 vehicles sold in 2017, the Japanese saw its sales rise by 8% on the Old Continent and reach a market share of 4.8%. In addition, 40% of sales are hybrid-electric.
“2017 was a very good year for us, we have passed the one million mark in a difficult market and we are ahead of the 2020 target,” said Dr. Johan van Zyl, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe (TME), which salutes the results obtained on the Old Continent by the European subsidiary of the Japanese.
The group can indeed rejoice. With 1,001,662 new vehicles sold in 2017, of which 927,060 for the Toyota brand alone, TME’s sales grew by 8% over the full year, and at the same time saw its market share rise to 4.8%.
The growth in TME’s sales is mainly due to the strong growth of the Japanese hybrid-electric range, which rose 38% in 2017 to add 406,000 new vehicles. Toyota’s “green” vehicles now account for 41% of the group’s total sales. A higher mix for Western Europe alone (52%), even France (60%).
Note for the Toyota brand alone that it can rely on four essential pillars with the volumetric performance of the Yaris range (209,130 VN, 50% hybrid), Auris (121,725 VN, 50% of which hybrids), and C-HRs (120 750 VN, 77% of which are hybrids) and other Rav4s (112 537 VN, of which more than 50% are hybrids), which together account for more than 50% of the total sales of the product. group in Europe.
