People Digest: Lightbox’s co-founder, partners exit; BYJU’S unit Osmo’s CEO resigns, Snap India names new head

Partners Siddharth Talwar, Prashant Mehta, and Jeremy Wenokur are leaving Mumbai-based Lightbox Ventures, while former CEO of BYJU’s subsidiary Osmo has joined Impending. Separately, Snapchat parent Snap Inc appointed former Google executive Pulkit Trivedi as the head of its India business.

Lightbox ex-partners likely to start own fund

Partners Siddharth Talwar (also a co-founder), Prashant Mehta, and Jeremy Wenokur are leaving Mumbai-based Lightbox Ventures, the Arc reported.

Sandeep Murthy, the other co-founder, will be the only remaining partner at Lightbox, which has assets under management of nearly $400 million across 16 companies.

“Differences over the fund’s strategy and the way forward have arisen over the past three to four years. All parties have now decided to part ways amicably,” the report said.

Talwar, Mehta, and Wenokur are expected to start their own fund. They are whittling down the names of Lightbox-backed companies they will continue working with under the separation contract with Murthy.

Osmo’s CEO joins software studio Impending

The former CEO of BYJU’S subsidiary Osmo, Cherian Thomas, has joined Impending, an Apple-focused software studio, he said in a LinkedIn post.

Thomas was the CEO at Osmo, the US-based startup that BYJU’S bought for $120 million in 2019.

He joined BYJU’S as the VP of International business in 2017 after serving as the founder and CEO of food-blogging platform Cucumbertown.

Snap Inc names new India head

Snapchat parent Snap Inc on Wednesday said it has appointed former Google executive Pulkit Trivedi as the head of its India business.

Trivedi joins Snap from Google, where he has spent the past five years as the director of Google Pay.

He will report to Snap’s APAC President, Ajit Mohan, and will be responsible for leading the company’s operations in India, including driving revenue, supporting partners, and nurturing the creator ecosystem.
