Wallbox has announced a new partnership with Kia America that will enable EV9 owners to access Wallbox’s bidirectional charging solution. Together, they are looking to offer Quasar 2 – Wallbox’s second generation DC bidirectional charger – to Kia EV9 customers starting in the first half of 2024.
The Quasar 2 itself provides a 11.5kW bidirectional charger designed to help EV owners to charge and discharge their EV’s battery to power their home, through its V2H capabilities, or send energy back to the grid with its vehicle-to-grid capability. The EV9 can hold between 76 kWh and 100 kWh of energy – which Wallbox estimates is enough to power a typical household for up to four days. In the event of a power outage, Quasar 2’s Power Recovery Mode automatically switches the user’s power source from the grid to their vehicle – allowing the homeowner to use their EV’s battery as an emergency backup generator.
