New Delhi: Tata Motors and Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, have entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to develop a 12MWp on-site solar project at Tata Motors’ Pune commercial vehicle manufacturing facility.

The project is expected to generate 17.5 million units of electricity annually, meeting approximately 17.2% of the facility’s electricity needs and potentially reducing carbon emissions by over 12,400 tonnes per year.
The solar project is set to be commissioned within six months of signing the PPA and will be an important part of Tata Motors’ long-term plans. The PPA will also include rooftop installations, adding to the existing 8.73 MWp capacity, bringing the total solar capacity for Tata Motors’ Commercial Vehicle Business Unit (CVBU) in Pune to 20.73 MWp. The company intends to further expand its solar capacity in Pune to meet the rising demand for renewable energy in the coming years.

Vishal Badshah, Vice President of Commercial Vehicle Operations at Tata Motors, said, “Tata Motors is dedicated to sustainability, aiming for net-zero emissions. Our strategy includes increasing the use of renewable energy through on-site and off-site measures to decarbonize our plants. This collaboration with Tata Power for a solar facility in Pune exemplifies our commitment to greener and more efficient operations. As a ‘Future Ready’ company and a RE100 signatory, we are actively transitioning to renewable energy sources, and this partnership marks a significant step toward our goal.”

Ashish Khanna, CEO of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, said, “Signing the 12MWp PPA with Tata Motors underlines our shared goals for a sustainable future. We are committed to supporting the energy transition of our C&I consumers through clean energy solutions.”

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited and Tata Motors have previously collaborated on a 16MWp solar power project in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, which is expected to be the largest in terms of capacity in the state.

Tata Power is India’s Largest Integrated Power Company, involved in conventional and renewable energy, power services, and next-generation customer solutions, including solar rooftop and EV charging stations.
