At a time when the Chandigarh municipal corporation is yet to allot space for charging stations in its parking lots despite the fact that the UT administration has been pushing for the same, the traders of the city have now come out against the proposed move, citing congestion in markets.
A delegation of the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM), an umbrella body of traders in the city, met mayor Anup Gupta on Friday, asking him not to allow charging stations in the congested markets.
The matter has become a major bone of contention between the MC and UT administration with the general house blatantly refusing to allot sites for charging stations in parking lots, saying that the EV policy was not sent to the MC or discussed with the members of the house. On the other hand, UT has asked MC to allot space for the purpose as charging stations is part of the EV policy.
In a memorandum submitted to the mayor, the CBM members said, “We urged not to allow EV charging stations in parking lots in congested markets.”
After the meeting with the traders, the mayor said since the MC has already rejected the proposal in the general house meeting, the matter will be taken up with the home secretary of the Chandigarh administration.
