Edtech firm Mathpresso has raised $8 million from Korean telecom giant KT, while self-storage platform StorHub has acquired Japanese self-storage operator Storage PLUS.
Korean telecom giant KT invests in edtech platform Mathpresso
Google-backed edtech company Mathpresso has raised $8 million from Korean telecom giant KT, according to a release.
The partnership aims to accelerate the development of an education-specific Large Language Model, leveraging Mathpresso’s proprietary AI technology and data along with KT’s infrastructure capabilities.
Besides Google, the company’s backers include GGV Capital, Goodwater Capital, and SoftBank Ventures Asia. Mathpresso has raised $130 million in funding to date.
Founded in 2015, Mathpresso operates QANDA, an AI-powered app tailored for K-12 students. The app uses advanced optical character recognition (OCR) technology to recognise text and mathematical equations from photos and offers in-depth solutions and personalised learning content.
StorHub to become one of Japan’s largest self-storage operators
Warburg Pincus-backed self-storage platform StorHub has acquired Japanese self-storage operator Storage PLUS.
StorHub has completed a 100% share capital acquisition of Storage PLUS. Following the transaction, StorHub will become one of the largest self-storage operators in Japan, with approximately 390 stores under its ownership and management.
Founded in 2003 in Singapore, StorHub was acquired by Warburg Pincus four years ago. The company currently operates more than 70,000 storage units across Australia, Greater China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea.
StorHub entered the Japanese market in 2020 through the acquisition of Tokyo Reise Box, one of the oldest self-storage operators in Japan.
