Japan’s Aisin to adopt Tesla-style ‘gigacasting’ for EV parts

NAGOYA, Japan — Japanese auto supplier Aisin said Thursday that it will start using “gigacasting,” a manufacturing process pioneered by Tesla, to produce aluminum components for electric vehicles.

Gigacasting is a form of aluminum die casting that combines what were traditionally several parts of a vehicle’s frame into one larger piece. The technique streamlines the manufacturing process and is seen cutting costs.
