Writer Raises $100M in Series B Funding

Writer, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of a generative AI platform for enterprises, raised $100M in Series B funding.

The round was led by Iconiq Growth with participation from WndrCo, Balderton Capital and Insight Partners, who led the Series A, and Aspect Ventures, who led the Seed, and included participation from customers such as Accenture and Vanguard. With this financing, ICONIQ Growth’s Doug Pepper has joined the board.

The company intends to use the funds to further invest in its own industry-specific large language models (LLMs), and to add agent and multimodal capabilities to its LLMs.

Led by CEO May Habib, Writer is a generative AI platform for enterprises. The company empowers people—support, operations, product, sales, HR, marketing, and more—to accelerate growth, increase productivity, and ensure governance of its customers. The platform includes Writer-built LLMs, Knowledge Graph to integrate with business data sources, and an application layer of chat interfaces, prebuilt templates, and composable UI options. Its models can be self-hosted, which allows customers to get the security benefits of building their own model with the speed to value benefits of an end-to-end solution.

Writer announced its $21m Series A round in 2021 and raised $5m in seed funding in 2020. The platform, compliant with SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, Privacy Shield, HIPAA, and PCI, serves such enterprises as Intuit, UiPath, Spotify, L’Oreal, Uber, and Accenture, among others.
