TOKYO — Japan’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure is looking long in the tooth, with charging stations being shut down as the market for such vehicles remains small, further hampering their spread.
Last year, a business owner in the city of Kyoto quit operating five high-speed EV chargers installed at his mobile phone shop in 2014. The chargers were used once a day at most, the owner said, and sometimes as little as two or three times a month.
