Amara Raja Batteries Limited, known on BSE: 500008 and NSE as Amarajabat, has changed its name to Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited (ARE&M). The new name represents the company’s shift from solely battery manufacturing to a provider in the Energy & Mobility sector.
ARE&M now offers products such as Automotive and Industrial Batteries, Battery Energy Storage Solutions, Lithium-Ion Cell Manufacturing, EV Chargers, Li-ion Battery Pack Assembly, Renewable Energy Storage Solutions, Battery Management Systems, and Lubricants.
The company’s direction will focus on its existing Lead-Acid battery business and growth in the New Energy Business. A subsidiary, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Private Limited (ARACT), was launched in November 2022. This subsidiary plans to establish a 16Gwh Gigafactory for producing cells and battery packs and an R&D center named E Positive Energy Labs.
Vikramadithya Gourineni, Executive Director – New Energy Business, highlighted that this transition is not just symbolic. “We’re evolving from a primarily battery-focused enterprise to a leader in integrated solutions in energy and mobility. Our determination is evident, especially in the fast-growing Light Electric Vehicle (LEV) segment where our products have shown significant promise.”
Harshavardhana Gourineni, Executive Director – Automotive & Industrial, emphasized the strength they have developed in the battery business. “Our robust distribution network, brand strength, and customer trust put us in a favorable position. We’re now looking forward to expanding into new sectors, including lubricants, with a goal to establish a substantial business in related products.”
