Lohum, an energy transition and battery materials firm, has become the first non-Chinese company to produce pure metallic Lithium at scale, positioning it among a select group of five global firms to achieve this.
The announcement came during Lohum’s Annual General Meeting in New Delhi on September 28.
The event also introduced the company’s recycled Lithium metal and was followed by the Annual Energy Transition Gala, attended by experts from India and global Net Zero communities. The production is the result of over two years of R&D by Lohum.
With this, India could emerge as a key player in the global supply of pure Lithium Metal, challenging China’s current market position.
Applications for pure Lithium metal span sectors like electric vehicle batteries, consumer electronics batteries, aerospace, metallurgy, medical, and industrial fields. This progress also opens doors for Lithium-air batteries, which could enable electric vehicles to run nearly 1000 kilometers on one charge.
The Annual Energy Transition Gala hosted by LOHUM saw participation from investors, industry figures, academics, and policymakers, focusing on the company’s innovations in clean energy ecosystems.
Lohms’s development in recycling to produce pure Lithium metal underscores a notable move in India’s energy transition agenda and may influence the global battery materials market.
