Polestar has announced the appointment of Lutz Stiegler as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and member of the Management Team, effective December 1, 2023. He will succeed Jörg Brandscheid, who will be leaving Polestar in the fourth quarter to pursue a career outside of the automotive industry.
Lutz, with over 25 years of experience in technology development within the automotive industry, is joining Polestar from Volvo Cars, where he has held various roles, including responsibility for Volvo’s electric propulsion systems.
Prior to his tenure at Volvo Cars, he served as Vice President of Powertrain Development at IAV GmbH.
Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, said, “Performance and innovation are pivotal elements in Polestar’s cars. Lutz, with his extensive expertise in BEV technology and in-depth knowledge of e-powertrains, will spearhead the development of these attributes. I extend my gratitude to Jörg for his support and leadership in our technology development over the past years.”
Polestar’s operating loss was diminished during its second quarter as the automotive sector gradually recovered from pandemic-linked supply chain challenges. The financially strained Swedish automaker, established by China’s Geely and Volvo Cars, disclosed an operating loss of USD 274.4 million for the current quarter, marking a decrease from the USD 627.3 million registered in the corresponding period a year ago.
