Honda reveals Prologue, its first electric SUV

Honda has revealed the 2024 Prologue, its first electric SUV that will provide an estimated range of 300 miles (482 km) and DC fast charging for driving in urban environments and beyond. Pre-sale activities for the e-SUV will begin later this year ahead of its first deliveries in early 2024. Honda expects that the MSRP for the EV will start in the upper $40,000 (€38,200) range before incentives or tax credits. At launch, the Prologue will be available in single-motor and dual-motor configurations across three trim levels – EX, Touring, and Elite.

The two-wheel drive models are powered by a front-mounted single motor tuned to maximize acceleration and efficiency. The Elite trim features a standard all-wheel drive configuration (available for the EX and Touring trims) which adds an additional motor in the rear. This dual motor arrangement generates an estimated power output of 288 hp (211 kW) and 333 lb-ft (451 Nm) of torque for responsive and quick acceleration.

The Prologue’s 85 kWh lithium-ion battery accepts DC fast charging at rates up to 155 kW, enabling it to replenish 65 miles (104 km) of range in around ten minutes. Further charging support comes from the HondaLink smartphone app, which provides easy access to available public charging networks and offers payment integration.

Inside, the Prologue’s tech offering is spearheaded by its standard offering of Google built-in, which enables access to native in-vehicle apps from the Alphabet subsidiary – including Google Assistant, Google Maps, and the Google Play store. The infotainment system is displayed across HD screens, the 11-inch digital driver instrumentation display and an 11.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The vehicle’s Elite trims add a 7×3-inch head-up display (HUD).

In working to offer an easy-to-use interface, the touchscreen incorporates a finger rest that helps the driver steady their hand as they make selections. More broadly, the system allows for Google Maps to be displayed on either of the vehicle’s two screens and provides route planning capabilities, recommending charging stations along the route to help optimize travel time. The navigation app can also estimate the charging time required to reach the destination and initiate preconditioning of the EV battery when the destination is a DC fast-charging station.

Further along the interior, the console’s large multi-use tray features two illuminated USB-C 45W charging ports, with two more USB-C ports provided as standard in the second row. The Honda Prologue’s software technologies benefit from Over-the-Air (OTA) updates to key vehicle computer modules, enhancing their functionality and capability over time. The Touring and Elite trims gain a premium 12-speaker audio system from Bose, including front and rear tweets as well as a subwoofer.
